The McLaren MP4-12C (2011–2014) was the first road car designed and built by McLaren since the legendary F1 of the 1990s. It introduced the carbon-fibre MonoCell tub that still underpins every McLaren today. The 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 (M838T) produced 592 hp and drove the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Curb weight is 1,434 kg; 0–100 km/h takes 3.1 seconds.

The MP4-12C re-established McLaren as a serious supercar manufacturer and seeded an entire model lineup. Its hydraulically interlinked suspension (ProActive Chassis Control) replaced traditional anti-roll bars and let the same car switch between road comfort and track-firm handling at the touch of a button — a McLaren signature ever since.
