Cardel Homes (“Cardel,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is the organizer of the Ride of a Lifetime charity event. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information you provide to us through this website and through your participation in the event. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Information we collect
When you book a ride, we collect:
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- Each rider’s name (if booking on someone else’s behalf)
- Your billing information, processed and stored by Stripe — we do not see or store credit card numbers
- Your selected ride(s) and time slot(s)
- Any promo code you use
When you visit this website, we may collect:
- A small browser cookie that holds your booking cart while you complete checkout
- Standard server logs (your IP address, browser type, pages visited) — used for security and basic analytics, not for advertising
When you contact us, we collect whatever information you choose to share — typically your name, email, and the contents of your message.
How we use your information
- To process your booking — confirm payment, send your confirmation email, generate your receipt, and add you to the event-day check-in list
- To communicate about the event — send reminders, schedule changes, weather updates, and post-event thank-you notes
- To improve future events — anonymous, aggregate analysis only (e.g. “we sold 80% of slots in the first week”)
- To inform you about future Ride of a Lifetime events — only if you’ve opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time
- To meet legal obligations — keep records as required by tax law and event-day waivers
Who we share information with
We share your information only as necessary to deliver the event. Specifically:
- Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified and stores all card information on their secure servers. See Stripe’s privacy policy
- Email service providers — used to deliver booking confirmations and event communications
- Rocky Mountain Motorsports — receives the rider list for event-day check-in
- Charity partner (Hope 4 MVC Kids) — receives aggregate funds raised. Personal information is shared only if you specifically request a charitable tax receipt directly from the charity
- Legal authorities — when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights
We never sell your personal information.
Data security
This site is served over HTTPS. Payment processing is handled by Stripe — credit card information is never transmitted to or stored on our servers. We follow industry-standard security practices to protect the personal information we do hold (booking records, contact details).
How long we keep your information
- Booking records — retained for at least 7 years for tax and audit purposes, as required by Canadian law
- Email subscription preferences — retained until you unsubscribe
- Server logs — typically purged after 90 days
Your rights
Under PIPEDA and Alberta’s PIPA, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Withdraw consent for future communications
- Request deletion of your information, subject to legal retention obligations
To exercise any of these rights, email us at JPrete@cardelhomes.com. We respond within 30 days.
Children’s privacy
Riders must be at least 14 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Stripe, our payment processor, is based in the United States. By making a payment, you consent to your billing information being transferred to and processed in the United States. Stripe is bound by data protection commitments equivalent to those required under PIPEDA.
Cookies
We use cookies in three categories:
- Necessary — a small first-party cookie holds your booking cart while you complete checkout, plus standard session and security cookies. These cannot be disabled because the site cannot function without them.
- Analytics — anonymous visitor statistics. None are in active use today, but you may opt in for any future analytics we add.
- Marketing — personalised content or remarketing. None are in active use today.
When you first visit the site, a banner asks for your preferences for the optional categories. You can change your choices at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the site footer.
Stripe may set its own cookies on the payment page for fraud prevention; see Stripe’s cookie policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated to active bookings via email.
